SRO Motorsports Group and Sean Edwards Foundation collaborate to raise safety awareness
Friday 17th October 2014
SRO Motorsports Group and the Sean Edwards Foundation are delighted to announce a new partnership that will see a number of safety proposals developed in order to increase standards among amateur racing drivers.
With a diverse group of non-professional drivers competing in the Blancpain Sprint and Endurance Series, SRO will adopt the Sean Edwards Test – one of SEF’s recently-announced initiatives – to educate rookie and gentleman drivers on responsibly competing at the highest level.
This will be achieved through a safety awareness course led by expert coaches and instructors, which includes real case histories, track time and genuine onboard video situations.
Following successful completion by the candidate, they’ll sit the SET exam, a virtual assessment that will test everything they’ve learnt on a state-of-the-art simulator. The initiative covers a variety of issues, which the foundation firmly believes amateur drivers should be aware of prior to receiving their racing licence.
By developing SET alongside worldwide motorsport organisations and partners, the Sean Edwards Foundation hopes that its gradual introduction across all levels of racing will set an example to future drivers, both on and off-track. Indeed, a potential reduction in insurance premiums for young drivers should they complete SET is the foundation’s first step in furthering overall road safety.
By claiming the FIA GT3 European Championship in 2006, Sean Edwards won a special place in the hearts of the SRO Motorsports Group. They have continued his legacy by implementing a universally accepted qualification into the Blancpain GT Series. The required competitors will be examined before their first race in a season and again prior to the world’s most prestigious GT race, the Total 24 Hours of Spa.
To highlight this ground-breaking partnership, drivers participating in this weekend’s penultimate Blancpain Sprint Series round at Belgium’s former grand prix circuit, Zolder, have partaken in the #jump4SEF campaign that emphasises SEF’s continuous safety drive by recreating Sean’s iconic victorious podium leap.
