SEF Attends the ADAC 24 Hours of the Nurburgring

Friday 18th May 2018

SEF visited the Nordschleife circuit in the Ardennes Forest for the very first time, with 12 SEF Ambassadors taking part, it was a great opportunity to meet and support them (Maro Engel, Adam Christodoulou, Nick Tandy, Earl Bamber, Kevin Estre, Sven Muller, Matteo Cairoli, Klaus Bachler, Rene Rast, Tim Scheerbarth, Rebecca Kebler, Jeroen Bleekemolen) with SEF Supporters Allan McNish, Yelmer Buurman, Luca Stolz and Sean Paul Breslin also in attendance, SEF was well represented in the race.

This year the race was of huge significance as it was the 5th anniversary of Sean winning the race back in 2013 with Mercedes AMG and Team Black Falcon along with fellow drivers Jeroen Bleekemolen, Nicki Thiim, Bernd Schneider. Daphne Sean’s mother, Chairman & founder of the foundation, was interviewed by John Hindhough at Radio Le Man’s and at the open air Mercedes AMG Fan Base arena plus also part of a Q & A with SEF Ambassador Adam Christodoulou again at the Mercedes AMG Fan Base, answering questions about the foundation and the Sean Edwards Test.

With an Entry list of 150 cars it would mean the race had not one but three starts, one for each  of the classes, once the red lights went out and the safety car pulled in, the race was under way it was a race of two very different halves, until well into the night, the 210,000 spectators got to see a thrilling race at the Nordschleife, the conditions were perfect for racing and brought some good close racing, in which the Porsche & Mercedes GT3 cars established themselves in the front-running group from the outset. Thunderstorms where predicted at around 3am and this turned out to be correct as the heavens opened and the rain came this would last the remainder of the race, with two and a half hours to go the conditions deterated even further with fog adding to the rain and spray  the Race Director had no alternative to put out the Red Flag, the stoppage lasted around 60 minutes, the race resumed under the safety car and with 90 minutes remaining the race got underway once more Mercedes AMG Car number 4 with SEF Ambassador Adam Christodoulou at the wheel and Porsche Car number 912 and Richard Leitz chasing, the race went to a sprint to the finish, with the Porsche coming out on top at the chequered flag with SEF Ambassador Nick Tandy involved, it was a thrilling finish to a great race full of incident and tension.
